Davies Aspin Partnership

The DAVIES ASPIN PARTNERSHIP has been formed with the aim of providing a traditional consultancy service in Building Services Engineering. This includes heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration, piped services, building and energy management systems, power, lighting, fire protection, voice and data communications systems, security services, and project cost planning. We are able to provide acoustic advice, project and maintenance procurement, cost in use and `value engineering' appraisals.

In addition to the traditional role we also have the specialist resources to provide for the increasing needs for engineering audits, installation quality control, condition surveys and risk assessments and Planning Supervision.

The practice has been involved in the development of construction qualifications and a partner is now an assessor for a Level 5 National Vocation Qualification in Project Management

The objectives are especially tailored to serve a wide client base who may need a more flexible approach to staffing needs whilst still expecting a professional, experienced team with a commitment to quality, reliability and traditional values in services design and management.

This booklet includes the Curriculum Vitae for the Partners of the firm along with descriptions of the areas of service we consider would be of particular interest to each of the groups of clients we wish to serve.

Our commissions from direct clients have included work on modifications to services in existing buildings, new build and condition surveys covering commercial and leisure projects, schools, colleges, police establishments, housing associations and elderly persons homes and hotels. We have been engaged as sole consultants or have worked in conjunction with the client’s in house specialists or other professional practices.

The traditional role of architects has changed, and practices have to be able to serve the needs of a new client base which increasingly includes property managers, developers and contractors. The partners of DAVIES ASPIN PARTNERSHIP have gained considerable experience working with architects, surveyors and contractors on both new projects and renovation and managing projects from inception to completion in very commercial environments both in the UK and overseas.

The renovation of an outdated building stock will test the ability and vision of design teams, and energy conservation and environmental pressures are dictating the form and performance of buildings. Condition surveys are vital in the assessment of existing buildings and the ability of building designs to incorporate the requirements of information technology also need to be recognised and planned.

The Construction (Design & Management) Regulations have had an impact on all designers and the partnership has been involved in advising Principal Contractors and providing Planning Supervisors with risk assessments and the engineering requirements for project safety files. One of the partners regularly lectures at Bath University on the CDM regulations.

The partners of DAVIES ASPIN PARTNERSHIP have gained considerable experience working with contractors in their design offices and managing projects from inception to completion in a very commercial environment both in the UK and overseas.

Many contractors have, over the past few years, been unable to sustain an in-house design team to support the expectations of their clients. DAVIES ASPIN PARTNERSHIP are especially suited to serve a wide client base including Building and Engineering Contractors who may need a more flexible approach to staffing needs whilst still expecting a professional, experienced team with a commitment to quality, reliability and traditional values in services design and an awareness of commercial pressures.

The solution to the problem of obtaining new buildings quickly is increasingly to rely on `Design & Build'. DAVIES ASPIN PARTNERSHIP has developed a form of appointment which, in our view, overcomes some of the disadvantages of performance specification where clients have specialist operational needs, whilst still offering substantial cost savings over traditional design.

In addition to the traditional role of consultants the partnership has recognised the need to use it’s expertise in other areas. In particular education and training has been a major development and the practice have been consultants to industry employer representative organisations funded by the Department for Education and Employment in the development of National Vocational Qualifications and assessment procedures. In addition one of the partners is a visiting lecturer at the University of Bath, School of Architecture and Civil Engineering. The partnership also provides professional advice as an expert witness.

The Partnership has considerable experience in provision of professional advice as expert witnesses for litigation covering both major and small contracts which inclued co-ordinated team work with Barristers Solicitors and other Construction specialists.
